Searching for Automotive Chrome Plater
« on: January 09, 2024, 20:47:57 »
Hi all, I am looking for a high class chrome plater for restoring my 230SL. I've used Paul's Plating (Pennsylvania) and Graves Plating Co. in (Alabama), but both companies have recently closed business.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

I didn't know Paul's had closed up. Graves recommended Advanced Plating in TN. https://www.advancedplating.com/site/  I had a headlight trim done by them recently and was very pleased and I am particular. They have reasonable prices for their quality. So far, I would say Advanced is doing better than Graves. Their lead time is a few months.

There is another is OH. Brightworks -   https://brightworkrestoration.com/  I had a shifter handle done by them and was immaculate. They are a top tier plating company and typically their work is seen at Pebble Beach. So not cheap and lead times will be long.

Sorry to hear about Graves...they did a lot (but not all) of the chrome on my restoration many years ago and it's all holding up spectacularly.

There's still plenty of platers around. One of the ones that did some of the work on my car was Fini Finish in Warren Michigan, but they too may be closed as their website domain is for sale by one of those leeches that swoop down on closed businesses and take over the domain name. I suspect its hard for some of these long standing businesses to find a buyer when the owner wants to retire...

Just call around your local car clubs and of course the advice given here (provided it too isn't out of date) is probably great.

Graves has been gone for almost a year now. Advanced still very much in business. They have a grill shell of mine that should be done in the month or so. Brightworks is also still going.

I didn't know Paul's closed.  I drive by there all the time and had no idea...
