Crash Tests

The 2/2024 MBCA magazine The Star  had a story about crash testing of their cars including a quote: Prior to any series production, every Mercedes model is put through no fewer than 15,000 accident simulations..."

Would anyone have any pix of Pagodas being crash tested that they could post?  I think it might be of interest to see.

I am not aware of Pagoda crash test pictures, but the grand finale of the 1994 movie Intersection with Richard Gere and Sharon Stone will give some idea.

I recall seeing at least one photo of a Pagoda crash test into a fixed barrier.  My recollection is that the fitted hardtop contributed greatly to maintaining the integrity of the passenger compartment.  Having seen that photo, I don't fuss about the hardtop weight anymore!

I've seen two 113's that were crash tested in Toronto. One was hit at the front from right to left and everything on the front of the car was totaled. Nose panel, hood, rad, right headlight, grill screens, sheet metal, steering wheel, collapsible cone in front of the steering wheel, windshield, front frame member up to the sub frame mount area and probably a lot of  parts that I didn't see. This was about 20 years ago and aside from the soft top frame there wasn't much that was useable.

Second car was hit the same way but from the opposite direction. Both drivers walked away due to the low speeds being travelled at the time. Neither car was a buy but both could have been repaired.

Yep, that's the one. I hadn't seen the head-on one before.  Look at the windshield and windshield frame in both photos. Passengers in the two cars with crumple zones in a head-on collision probably would fare better than those hitting a fixed barrier.
