Alternator
« on: March 11, 2024, 21:08:09 »
1966 230SL
I am starting to look for a replacement alternator for my 230SL since the current one is squeaky.  The question I have is regarding the model I should look for.  Mine (Bosch 0 120 400 532?) has the double v-pulley on the front and the back looks as shown in this old photo.  I've seen several that have a plug in the back (maybe 3 prong?) but my alternator doesn't have a plug - just individual wires to attach.
I'm just starting but I thought I should reach out to the experts.  I did search the forum and found some discussion on a higher amperage model some folks have used - which sounds good.

Any advice or reference to relevant posts would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Harry

Harry,

No need for the ? as you part number ends with 532.  A quick Google search shows eBay, which is fine as a reference point.

It should be rebuildable by an appropriate shop.

Of course there are threads about upgrading, here's just one example.

Earlier versions of the 230SL had the ring terminals instead of the plug.

I got my 280 SL alternator changed on September 2023, did a great deal of search. Bought mine from budsbenz.com

I am adding the links, you can refer to them:
