Finding Touch-up Paint

Hi. Two questions really. Anyone know where I could get a smallish amount of 717 (papyrusweiss) paint? And has anyone ever seen our paint in aerosol form (spray can)?

I am touching up my radio plate -- and while generic whites get close, they don't capture the cool Papyrus white... I thank you.

I have used these folks, painTscratch that is. They have a number of different sizes and container types, so you should be able to find something to fit your painting needs.

In Winnipeg Canada I was able to buy a small bottle of touch-up acrylic enamel, 717 papyrus, from an autobody supply distributor. It was a dead match. The acrylic cures over time and is similar to what came from the factory.

I was fortunate to buy the acrylic as it is being discontinued due to lack of demand. The alternative is the base coat used with base/clear finishes. When using ths type of paint for touch-up you then have to top-coat with something such as a nail polish.

If you look in The Star (of course you have to be an MBCA member to get it, and I know many of this group are not) there is an advertisement for autovisuals, www.autovisuals.com and they make paint touch up pens, which are reported to be better then little jars of paint with brushes.

Many of our old 113 colors are in their database (which begins at 1990, unfortunately) as these are tried and true colors--such as DB568 Signal Red.  Papyrus White 717 would be a special order, but they have a special order system and it doesn't hurt to ask.

You can also go to many autobody paint shops--there are quite a few around locally--and buy a quart.  Sounds like a lot, but if that's what you need...

You could try the Krylon gloss spray paint can called "Ivory Gloss"  I had repaired a nose panel of a friend's car.  Had to spray the underside of the hood and engine bay to paint the bodywork repairs with a spray paint and the one I mentioned came within 95% accuracy in matching.

Hey George, I have relaitive that live on Cunnington ave in Winnepeg, do you know it ? I've been there many times ..............
never seen a Pagoda though ! :evil:

I have managed to get my local Paint Factor to mix up some paint in touch up and spray cans. I took the scuttle off and left it with the m for an hour or so.

One thing I have noticed is that it is celulose paint and despiute being a perfect match when going on it darkens slightly after a few months. I didn't use any lacquer over it..............should I have ?

Ben, I cannot comment on your paint because I do not know whether it was acrylic or base coat. My paint is acrylic and has not changed at all in over a year.

There are 2 Pagodas here in Winnipeg, Manitoba:

1. Mine - 1965 230SL - papyrus white, acquamarine leather interior, black hardtop and softtop. I have owned it a year having purchased it from the estate of my neighbour. He purchased it new and I have known this car for 25 years. It has original paint, never winter driven, no rust. It had not been on the road for the past 9 years.

2. 280SL - silver with burgundy interior, black soft top. I have only seen it on the road twice. The fellow lives in my part of town. I have yet to meet him though.

If you need paint it is available at Rondex here in Winnipeg. I paid $9.00Cdn for a small bottle complete with cap with a built-in brush. They will also mix aerosoal cans for you.
