Correct Dipstick?
« on: May 31, 2024, 19:47:44 »
Hi, so reading the tech manual I am not sure if I have the correct dipstick...  Someone looking at my car said I did not.
Tech manual says for the old style with the AirFiltered Vent should be stamped 220SE.  Mine is stamped 190?
Funny there is no measurement for the Early version but there is for the other two.
Not sure if you measure the Entire Stick or just the Metal piece that goes in?

Mine measures approx...
480mm for just the stick
570mm for the entire dipstick with filter.

You probably have a 190SL dip stick on your engine. 220SE would be correct.

Is there a breakdown of what years used which dipstick or by Build number?  My car is 12150
230sl.  I am guess it would be the Middle or Latest.  Based on my measurements I would assume it is the Latest because that is the closest to my measurement.  Also where are the measurements made?  is it the entire stick?  I am just curious if my 190 is off a little and I should track down the correct dipstick or just be aware of the difference.

For 127981 I see:

A 127 010 03 72, up to engine: 981 10, 20 010786 or 12, 22 002990 - I think you engine is a later engine
A 108 010 05 72, as of engine: 981 10, 20 010787 or 12, 22 002991 - you may fit here. This dipstick, they say, is available at dealers, $ 120-150 approx. I am not sure you will get a dipstick looking exactly like you wish. The 10, 20 and 12, 22 are codes for LHD, RHD, Manual and automatic.

I see another PN, A 108 010 01 72, no description.

However, for the USA you had option with PN A 127 010 04 72 (or several other part numbers), SA 10852:    OIL DIPSTICK W/BREATHER FILTER & CHECK VALVE; U.S.A. This one looked like the early one or so it is shown on the drawing.

Cool I will look around for those.
Looks like my Engine is 127 981 12 002690
So probably the A 127 010 03 72
or the USA Option...
