How do I clean Foggy Tach & Speedo?
« on: July 04, 2024, 13:47:31 »
Hi Folks, hope everyone is well.  Hitting the forum to see if anyone can give me some instructions on how to clean the interior glass of my Speedometer and Tach on my '67 250SL.

They've progressively gotten dirtier/foggier with time over the 16 years I've owned the car.  Who has done this work before? Does anyone have some good recommendations on how?

Please share and thanks in advance!

I did this 25 years ago. I think it is described in the tech manual but, in short:

- remove gauges from dash
- uncrimp the chrome ring by carefully prying open at the back, with a small screwdriver. No need to uncrimp entire circumference, just enough to remove the ring
- this will allow you to remove the glass
- clean the glass
- installation is by carefully crimping the chrome ring back on, use pliers and protect the chrome with a piece of heavy cloth, a swatch of leather or similar. If you do this properly, you will not be able to see the ring was ever off, from the front
- enjoy the view. Mine are stil clear, now 25 years on

Andres, welcome back after your long absence!

Peter
Hi Peter, good to be back here for a while.  Moved to Florida and now have the car back with me.  Weather in Miami a bit too hot to enjoy driving in daytime, but evenings are a blast!

Cheers!
