Replace brake servo 280sl

Hello, I need to replace the brake servo for my 280sl and need advice from everyone. Regarding replacing a new brake servo and a used old one, which option should you choose?

Any advice from anyone. Thank.

I am quite sure any brake and clutch outfit should be able to recondition your brake servo.

I would have mine rebuild. Who knows what you get when you buy a used one.

I would second Dirk's comment. The servo in my 280 SL finally got to the point of repair or replace. I asked around and found a place in San Diego that could do the repair. They had not backlog and I could have had the unit back the next day! I opted to fit my schedule and got back to them the next week.

I even asked them to not paint the front of the unit to keep the original white paint marks and stickers in place.

Not cheap, $450, but it is the original unit, it fits, it works, and was a relatively easy job.

Make sure that you note the position of the eccentric bolt at the rear of the unit so you can put it back in at the same position.

During my restoration 20+ years ago, I inquired of Bud's Benz if they would rebuild my brake servo. "Sure!" they said. "Send it in!" So I did that. After a bit, I had not heard from them, and I called them. Then they said, "Oh, we cannot rebuild one of those". And they sent it back.

I ended up buying a new one. At that time it was not alarmingly high in price.

Now all these years later, I hear that people can have these rebuilt!

I have a 250 servo that needs a new diaphragm any one know who woukd supply  one preferable in Europe?

I just had mine rebuilt. Like $400 to rebuild and new were like $800+. You know it is original!

White Post Restorations did mine. I had the Booster, Master cylinder and Proportioning valve all done at the same time.

I think we recently discusses the subject, but I can't find the post. I had my spare one rebuild locally (SoCaL). I paid $180 for rebuild, $ 60 for powder coating.
It is very important, that whoever you send it to, to protect the plastic (bakelite)  sleeve that sticks out of the booster. These brake very easy, especially during shipping. Most rebuilders will not be able to replace it.

back in 2017,I helped Thierry Savidan in LAOS , to obtain the internal membranes or Diaphram.
He had a rebuilding kit but it did not have the internal membrames.
So thru the club I locate  Jeff at Karps power Brakes in Upland Cal. He supplied the membrames
So I sent them to LAOS. It worked and Thierry was happy.
