brake light switch bumper
« on: August 26, 2024, 14:55:41 »
A minor but annoying issue is replacing the nylon/rubber bumper on the brake light switch which dampens the brake pedal when it is released.  The original deteriorated and broke into pieces.  I was able to find a hard rubber replacement at Authentic Classics but am having trouble getting it on the end of the switch.  Short of removing the entire switch assembly, has anyone found a trick to this or have other advice?  it is not an easy place to work!  (no surprise)

I could glue to the brake pedal as I have read elsewhere but would prefer to get this bushing onto the switch peg where it will most certainly out live me.

r.munson,

I thought I had replaced mine many years ago. Perhaps it was before this forum came online because I can't find a discussion.  Here's a very old thread that has the NLA part number in the subject.  Perhaps MB Classic is again supplying it?  Can you post a pic of what Authentic Classics sent you?

I bought it at Mercedes 3-4 years ago. No issue with application.

I will check availability when I get to my computer.

I am having trouble getting the part over the protruding end of the switch; it is pretty firm but slightly flexible.
Photo of 2 pieces of the old part (the rest is crumbs) and the new black one.

Not available from MB.

SL Shop in UK has one that has a little different profile than the one from Authentic Classics.  Has a narrower top ridge before the slope.

The one from SLS in Germany also looks like the one from SL Shop and your original part's profile.
