Dip Stick
« on: September 06, 2024, 22:41:05 »
There is an early 1995 230SL for sale on "Bring a Trailer" auction site. It has a red dip stick. Was this ever a correct color?

There is a discussion here on the different dip sticks (21 years ago).  https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=450.msg1822#msg1822

My 230SL has the second one (the shorter one without the red breather cap) in Joe's picture.  Mine is a late '66 230SL.

Mine is a 64 with the breather and no red dipstick, it is even date stamped 6th month 1963, so I assume it is original. Anyone know?

That's the correct dip stick for an early car. It would have had a red handle on it when it was new.

Here is the date stamping, looks original from the first batch of early car dip sticks.
