Coil question.
« on: September 11, 2024, 18:33:40 »
I have a 67 230Sl and I'm pretty sure the coil went bad.  I ordered a replacement Bosch 0221102036 which was in the vehicle.   I noticed a condensor attached to the coil that's larger than a condensor I'm used to seeing near the distributor.

Is there a party number for this condensor?  Is this condensor necessary for the coil?   I wanted to replace both because they both appear old but I'm not 100% sure where to get the correct one or what it does.

Also, are there any other coils people recommend for the 230SL?  I had to buy a used coil and would prefer new but not sure which coils people use for their 230 and if the condensor is necessary for each coil...

Thank you.

Do you have a pic of the new coil and condenser?  I'm working on my 230SL, about the same age as yours.

I ordered the exact model coil used that I had working in the vehicle before it went out.   Pic attached (bosch).  I ordered another coil that said it's for the 67 230sl pic attached (no clue if it will work).  I also ordered a random bosch ignition condensor but have no idea if it's the one for the coil or not? Attached Pic

Here is the coil that says it's for the vehicle but it's not the same model that is in the vehicle.  Hoping it works.

Hello, the condenser attached to the coil is for radio noise suppression, as far as i know it's a BERU SK 213/2   3uF 110V MAX 80c, or equivalent.  depending on whether you have an original radio, or use a radio in your car, you may no longer need this, if not just leave it in situ for originality, and perhaps just disconnect it

It looks like the one you've ordered is for the distributor points

If you use the search function above for "coil", you can see what coils are recommended for your car, and there is also a section in the technical manual, above left, but you need to register a as a full member to access these files

I highly recommend asking for advice here, or using the Search feature, to learn the proper parts you need before you buy anything.

I also recommend buying genuine MB parts, or original equipment parts (like Bosch).  I have no idea what you might get from a discount parts supplier.
