Yes you must use the correct Carter Pump, if that is your choice, since many different Carter Pumps are available. There are some other Brand choices also. Pay attention to the fuel pressure and especially the volume spec for the replacement pump. Volume is critical and must also be at spec or above. If you mount the replacement higher than spec. it may be just fine after the system is primed, otherwise if it is a gravity feed, it may need to be mounted low as was the original pump, to self prime especially with low fuel level in the tank. This Carter pump is a little noisier than the original, but Carter offers a "quiet kit" which will reduce the noise by rubber mountings (as was the original). With the right Carter pump starting should be fine. It is true that new Ethanol fuels do lower the boiling temperature of the modern gasoline, causing a bit more cranking with hot engines, on these cars. You will notice an improvement in hot starts using non-ethanol fuels in the warm weather. Increasing fuel pressure also reduces overheating your fuel supply, by increasing volume of fuel circulating and increased cooling of the fuel.
