Years ago, I had the good fortune of not only meeting Bruno Sacco, but hosting a reception for him and his wife. He was coming into Detroit to be inducted into the Automotive Hall Of Fame. I had the audacity as a member of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America, to call Mercedes-Benz PR in New Jersey at the time and ask if we could have Mr. Sacco for an evening. Initially, they kind of laughed at the concept, saying every moment of his time will be taken up, as that is the way Germans plan things. I said thank you anyway, and if anything changes to, please give me a call.

Some weeks went by and then I received a call from Mercedes-Benz PR, and they told me that Mr. Sacco would be available on a Tuesday evening, just five days from when they called me. They told me where to meet him at the hotel in Dearborn, and that I would have a brand new Mercedes S class to drive him to the event.

Of course, there was no event at this moment and in the next few days, with the help of the Mercedes-Benz of Saint Clair Shores dealership, we put together a wonderful reception in his honor. We invited all of our Mercedes-Benz club members as well as other dealers and dignitaries from the area. It was a lovely evening, one that will always be in my memory.

Ciao, Bruno…possa tu riposare in pace.
