Long fuel pump overhaul
« on: October 06, 2024, 14:58:10 »
Hello guys . I was wondering if there is someone or some companies specialized in overhauling or rebuilding this long style fuel pumps . Since we have many rebuilders for the injection pump , I was thinking that perhaps there should be someone competent with these pumps too .
Mine is working so far ( touch wood ) but just in case something happens , I want to be ready and be able to send to someone who knows what to do . I know that there are many rebuild kits in the market but that’s not the job for me to do it myself .
I was thinking about someone around Europe preferably.
Thank you .

These long pumps have been un-rebuildable for years. A very special "metal brass bellow seal" became unobtainable for many years. The good news is that Authentic Classics is now offering newly re-produced "bellow seal" for this early style fuel pump.

I decided to go on adventure and rebuild the long pump myself ( for my Ponton 220SE). I have not yet completed it. As ja17 says, the bellow seal as well as the black thick seal are available. On eBay as well. I even found insulators for connectors - I think it is close to impossible to remove them without damaging.

That being said I was advised by many mechanics just to swap it for a short pump, which is much more reliable and easier to overhaul.

You may just consider this when you have a quote for a long one overhaul.

The bellow seal is available again from vintage euro parts . We have to consider that the problem can be also something else and not the bellow . Sometimes is just lack of use or leaking fuel from the lower oring .
