Certainly is. The storm surge prediction must be terrifying for those on the coast
Stay safe folks.

We have friends who live in Bradenton. Right where the eye of the storm goes. Don't know if they evacuated. We are praying for them.

We've got a vacation place right on the beach on Sanibel, FL right off of Fort Myers.  Ian reduced the 2BR condo to concrete block.  Literally everything on the inside swept into the gulf.  12 foot storm surge covered the Island.  Restoration is very slow, and we've got the doors, windows, HVAC and Drywall in.  That's it.  Expecting 12 feet of surge tonight.  The wind is less, but the water comes in hard and fast.  We'll see whats left tomorrow.  There is no Climate Change?  The gulf is 4 degrees hotter than historical numbers. there have been more 4 and 5 Gulf Hurricanes in the past decade than in the prior 70 years.  Still looking for my good Bourbon and our Remote Controls from Ian.  Maybe they'll show up.

I'm not sure Ian is willing to share the good Bourbon with you... have no idea why he'd nick your remote controls...  ;)

But I hope everyone is safe in Florida, as are all the Pagodas. And yes, despite denials, climate change is a contributing factor.

Mike, this is truly shocking to see. So sorry for all the heartbreak you must have gone through. So many questions.
How do you keep your Pagoda, or any car safe when that happens? How do you decide to rebuild when you know there is another hurricane coming next season or the one after? Can you get insurance for such an event? If so, how much is it? Do insurance companies actually pay out when they know there is another hurricane coming? Can you get car insurance for flooding and hurricanes?
Hope all is safe there 🙏🏻

Re: hurricanes in Florida - all I know is that I lived in Southern Florida from 1982 through 1991, some 10 years. We had, in all that time, not a single hurricane.
But our home on Big Pine Key was hit very hard by Irma, a category 4, in 2017.

It’s all very sad.

The hurricanes seem to be coming with a little more frequency and a little more severity than in years past.

It’s not just Florida, but the entire Gulf Coast and Southeast coast of the USA. My daughter’s friend who attended the college of Charleston (SC) as an undergraduate from 2016 until 2020 was evacuated every September for the four years she was there. Not every hurricane that came was damaging, but enough to cause an evacuation.

The Florida dream of a lower cost place to have a retirement home or even just a place to winter or move to away from colder areas has turned into a nightmare for many. Even those who have homes that have been spared, these multiple hurricanes have seen their lives disrupted in many ways, not to mention their insurance companies pulling out of the state. Home insurance in Florida is about six times what I pay here in North Carolina.

Try selling a home on the Gulf Coast of Florida today.

We used to pay over $1,000 for storm insurance a month for our place in the Florida Keys. That was more than 10 years ago, imagine what it is like now.

[for comparison, the comprehensive insurance on our home in France, which is 3 times as large as the one in the Keys, is less than $700 a year]

I am one of the lucky ones. My house is in Englewood and is about a mile from the gulf.
The storm only bent my TV antenna on the roof. Otherwise no damage.
AS compared to Ion 2 years ago , it blew my shed across the street and also bent my TV antenna pole.
It blew some water in the vent above my master bedroom and dropped down about 12 square feet of ceiling.
Also broke a couple of window panes in my Florida room.
I had to replace the roof shingles also.
So Milton was mild for me.

Another note: About 2025 PUB I mentioned before, how about Eastern New York state or Penn.
It seems like no likes the northeast.

There is a city in West Virginia named Hurricane.  Six miles west on I-64 is a town named Milton.
