Isn't the correct question - which coil pairs with your specifi distributor and resistor (condenser)?

I have an early 1969 280SL which came with an iron cast distributor and a black bosch coil, just wanted to verify how the black coil looks originally

"Early cars" usually means a '64 or '65 230SL.  I think some had an 049 distributor?  My '66 has an 051 distributor.  Your 280SL may have something different? The number is on the metal Bosch ID tag on the distributor.
