All parts necessary for valve cover breather pipe?
« on: December 04, 2024, 04:36:32 »
Hello gents, as my car is before motor number 010786, it seems I need at least the following to restore the metal breather pipe that went from the valve cover to the throttle body:

Throttle body end: https://www.authenticclassics.com/Metal-Breather-Pipe-for-early-230SL-220Seb-p/auth-007120.htm
Valve cover end: https://www.authenticclassics.com/Valve-Cover-Breather-Pipe-for-early-230SL-220Seb-p/auth-007122.htm?CartID=2

But I can't really determine what else is needed since there's so much variety in the photos I've seen -- some early cars have a rubber hose between the parts, others have a braided hose..

It seems many of these breather pipes were discarded in favor of venting to the ground, as was done on my car, likely owing to corrosion or other gunk inside of the line. It would be nice to have all the parts needed to restore this in one list, and I can add to the technical manual. I haven't seen any old threads addressing what actually is needed.

Greetings, Harold

It seems that's for a later car, unfortunately.

I did remember I have not one for two parts catalogs, though no dealer catalog to tell me the part numbers.

I'm getting conflicting information wherever I look. It appears there are also some differences between the manual (my car) and automatic cars, at least according to the parts vendors, but that isn't reflected in the catalog.

If you provide VIN, I can look it up in the Mercedes system.

In the meantime, SLS have good pictures: https://www.sls-hh-shop.de/en/mercedes-230-280sl-w113/07-mech-injection-air-intake/09-air-intake-and-aircleaner

Part A007 997 77 82 was used in the range of M114 and M130 engines, so - later indeed.

Thanks for the offer, Pawel -- the VIN is 113042-10-009875

The first character is typewritten as an upper-case I but I assume that is supposed to be a 1. Motor number is 008394, titled and ordered as a '64 but I believe produced in March or so of '65.
