Seeking 5-speed shift knob with Getrag 265/6 pattern
« on: December 10, 2024, 00:12:18 »
I took my stock shift knob to a local engraver with the aim of adding a 5th position to it. He absolutely ruined it. In fact, he managed to catch it on fire. Just horrendous. A joke.

If anyone has any leads on a shift knob that looks stock or happens to have one of the ones an associate of Wolfgang of W113.eu was making, please let me know. Wolfgang's source passed away with no successor, so I'm out of luck there. I know there is a Jaguar shift knob available from SNG Barratt that has the proper pattern, but I'd prefer it to be with the little circles around the numbers, if possible.

Jack, I don't know the Getrag shift pattern but here's a 5 speed knob with the little circles you seek. Authentic Classics also has it in white:  https://www.authenticclassics.com/230SL-250-280SL-113ch-NOS-5-Speed-Shift-Knob-p/auth-002757.htm

If you can't find a Getrag layout knob, this is apparently a standard 4 speed knob with the 5th engraved on it, posted by another member on here, so it is doable, if you can find the right engraver

Maybe these can help if they're happy for you to supply the blank knob?

Bob just posted the correct shift pattern -- it's just like our standard design with the added 5th on the top right. I'm reaching out to a custom shifter manufacturer to see if something can be done that looks good.

What's wrong with original A 111 268 10 42? You can buy it at Mercedes for about $100.

The reverse on the Getrag is on the top left position rather than the bottom right, otherwise it would be a great solution

Try w113.eu

Wolfgang over there said the fellow that made the knobs died and has no successor, so for the time being he's SOL, as am I.

Seems like this is a good candidate for 3-d printing?

My Getrag 265/6, overdrive transmission is the same as the picture Bob posted.
I went to a jeweller who aded the extra leg, the circle and the 5 to the “ball”

There is a VW Polo shifter with the exact same 5-speed markings as the Getrag. It is a modern style, though.

I thought so, too, but it seems several knob companies I contacted who 3D print and the like said they don't work in diameters as small as our knobs! I'm seeing our shift knob is very, very, very small by comparison... I don't quite buy it, but whatever, they don't want to do it (three tries now, will keep trying).

In the meanwhile, I ordered another knob and I'll reach out to some jewelers as Chris did.
