Remove the gearbox from the engine
« on: January 15, 2025, 09:20:04 »
I have encountered problems when trying to remove the gearbox from the engine,
I manage to free the gearbox about 20 mm then it stops.

I think the bearing in the crankshaft is stuck on the gearbox shaft so that the bearing touches the fingers of the clutch.
I don't think this is the first time this has happened and I wonder if anyone on this forum
has had the same thing happen and if so how did you get the gearbox out?

Alternative ways to dismantle the clutch could solve the problem but there is no hatch to access the screws
and it is not possible to do it through the opening for the clutch fork and I would rather not cut open the bell house.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have to solve my problem, the gearbox has to come out so I can renovate it.

Best regards, Lars

Problem sorted!
I got it out thanks to mail conversation over the last weeks with Wolfgang at w113.eu,
I bought his conversion kit to install Getrag 265/6 from him, two years ago.
I used the method with bolt and nuts to press it out, see picture, good to know if someone else runs into this problem
The problem to get the Getrag out was that the cover of the crank bearing that had fallen out of position and got stuck in the chamfer between the splines and the end where the bearing slides on.
Now the gearbox will be sent to Hulleman in the Netherlands to be fully refurbished, so the 230SL can be ready for the spring.

Best Regards, Lars
