Windows are out .. now what?
« on: August 07, 2005, 20:32:23 »
The door windows are finally out but it took some time getting them loose from the baked on window holder. Part of the rubberized strip between the outside holder and the window came off and I am wondering whether I need to replace this strip.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Alfred

I replaced the strips during the course of a recent restoration.  It's accessible under the chrome window trim which are held in place by metal clips.  The rubber strip is available through Mercedes-Benz dealers and install easily.

Tom,
thanks for the quick reply. I believe we have different parts in mind. I am dealing with the piece that holds the window at the bottom using 4 screws. I am attaching a pic (at least I hope since i haven't tried this before) and hope that the problem will become more clear.

Alfred,

I recently did mine.  Rubber hose or faucet gaskets makes a good washer to fit the holes in the glass.  I then used strips of an old innertube as a gasket on the window.  Worked great and cost almost nothing.

good luck,

Alfred,
If you have some extra money about and since the windows are out it might be a good time to change the window brushes.

Ted and Tom,
thanks for the suggestions. I found a thin sheet of rubber gasket material and glued it to the window holders.
And yes the new brushes - or "whiskers" are ready too.  Now I am waiting for Ray Paul's replacement kit for the window guides to arrive and then I hope I won't ever have to mess with the jaws again.
