Good Afternoon! I purchased my 1965 230SL Pagoda knowing it was a bit of a "frankenstein" car. I've always loved this body style and found an older model that had the original 2.3L engine swapped for a 2.8L. I originally thought it was from a 280SL, but after further research I cross referenced the engine number (130.980-12-047632) and determined it was an M130.980 from a late 1960's 280SE. While these engines are similar, there are certainly differences in compression ratios, camshaft tuning, and fuel system calibration to suit the different vehicle applications. We finisahed getting the engine together with replacement rings and bearing kits for a 280SL only to find that we cannot get compression above 40 pounds. I'm guessing that the rings are incorrect for this model engine. I'm needing some assistance on sourcing the correct rings and bearing kit for my engine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
With Gratitude, Super Robbie G!
PS - My love for this model comes from my grandfather who took me for rides when I was just a little tike. I cant wait to get her on the road again. So close!
