Fuses 25amp
« on: April 10, 2025, 05:51:53 »
Hi guys, I have a rhd 1967 250SL Auto and the idle solenoid ( I think) started to smoke. I disconnected and then accidentally let one of the live wires touch earth. Now I have no gauges, no indicators etc but all the usual fuses are fine. Are there other fuses than the box just under the hood? Thanks

There are no other fuses except auxillary for heated rear window, fog lights or radio - those are in separate boxes near voltage regulator (radio) and near brake booster (fog lights, rear window heater).

Idle solenoid is powered from fuse 5, so it checks out what you lost when the fuse was blown. Have you tried just to replace the fuse 5?

However: IMHO as the solenoid was drawing excessive current for some time, I would have a very careful check on the power supply to it before and after fuse - chances are wires or connections are burnt. They might have burnt if the current was not enough to blow the fuse, but enough to cause them heat up.

IDDLE INCREASE SELENOID SHORT
Dear GC

As Pawel suggested, the IDDLE INCREASE or CONSTANT SPEED selenoid, is fed through fuse 5. So if its live wire touched earth for a short period of time and the correct size fuse (8A) was installed on that terminal, that will be the only damage to repair.

Fuse 5, also feeds power to

1. Brake light
2. Reverse light
3. Turn signal flasher

So if that fuse (5) is burnt none of the above mentioned sub systems will be operational.

On the other hand you suggest that now you have nothing working on the instrumentation panel, I presume you refer to central instrumentation panel, which has only one electrical driven gauge which is the fuel indicator.

The fuel indicator positive side is fed through fuse 2 via a BLACK/blue wire.  You as full memeber can review the published wiring diagram on the technical section of this forum.

Brush fuse 5 terminals
You may change the fuse 5 and still nothing is operational since the brass is subject to corrosion, you have to polish terminals with a stainless steel small brush to have a perfect contact and resume power to all the sub systems powered by that circuit
