3 point belts
« on: April 16, 2025, 20:58:05 »
My 1961 1961 220  SE coupe has old lap belts which I want to change to 3 point belts Is there an anchor point on the early coupes for a metal bracket under the leather to attach an anchor?
Thanks

Are you talking about the threaded sleeve that is on the upper door panel at the rear quarter window? If so, it would be below the panel cap. That cap can be easily removed. It is held on by one screw in the chrome strip at the rear and (2) push clips. Will also have to remove the upper chrome plate on the door jam facing the rear. I can't remember the the rear seat back has to be removed also.

I can snap a picture later today of what it looks like.

Here is the anchor. It is simply welded on the steel rail. Then a hole is put in the cap frame and leather. It could be under the cap, not sure when that was done and maybe if an option.

You can see the two slots where the clips fit into that are mounted on the cap. The clips are part number #002 988 45 78.   https://www.authenticclassics.com/DOOR-TRIM-RAIL-MOUNTING-CLIP-FITS-100-107-108ch-p/auth-009259.htm
