Where can I buy an original battery for my 1966 230SL?

Batteries are not usually a very sensible "mail order" item (check the shipping fees if in doubt) but the original battery is one of these black affairs with 6 red screwtops. E.g. http://www.sls-hh.de sells them for €140 (but check the additional shipping costs).

Because of my recent experiences, I've started to look upon batteries as a bit of a consumption item... a bit like petrol (or gas) really. So I just buy a cheap battery that fits from one of the mainstream battery dealers.

i think most concours cars just use a mercedes battery. unlike the original, it's white, not black.

alternatively, you could use a black battery and ask the retailer if it's possible to order it without stickers of any kind. i've seen this done and it often costs far less than the mediocre, but expensive factory battery that's currently available at your friendly neighborhood mercedes dealer.
