230sl fuel hose part nos
« on: August 12, 2005, 18:47:06 »

For 230SLs, there are two possible fuel hoses connected to the fuel filter housing on the pump side (fuel flowing INTO the filter):
(1) later 230SL: this has a nut/fitting on both ends (part #108 476 00 26)
(2) early 230SL, until VIN # 013014: this has the fitting on one end only, and a simple hose clamp is used to tighten the other end.

Mine requires the latter; does anyone have a part number for this hose?

Thanks in advance!

If you cannot find the hose you want, you should be able to go to a local parts house and have them fabricate a hose for you.  The parts houses that sell parts for over the road tractors may be your best bet for finding someone to fabricate hoses.  You may need to reuse the fitting from your old hose.  Just cut off the crimping sleeve before you go to the parts house.  They will install a new hose and use a new crimping sleeve just like the factory piece.  Of course the old fitting will not be shiny unless you have it plated.  In some instances they will have fittings that work so the new hose will have all new parts.

They can make all kinds of custom hoses ie. AC hoses, power steering, fuel and oil lines and any number of other hoses.  If you are not interested in absolute originality this is a good way to go and many times it is cheaper than the OEM hoses.

Good luck

Interesting... the part #111 476 0926 is actually the hose on the rear end of that fuel line (fuel-pump outlet heading to the front). They don't actually make the front hose anymore, as you can simply order this rear one and cut the hose down to a suitable length (since the 'fitting' is on one end only). However, the rear hose has a mesh/fabric covering, while part #108 476 0026 (with a fitting on both ends) does not. You can also order this later hose, and simply cut off one end to use a hose clamp instead.

Only *I* can ramble on 'meaningfully' about fuel hoses on a sunny friday afternoon at the office... it takes a special talent you know  :D

I can raaaamble ,too.
The parts books show it as the same hose as the rear at K/K , but you will notice that SLS shows the distinctions...you will notice that the chassis number change on the hose is the same change on the metal fuel line gong to the front .. this indicates that there was a diameter change in both the hose and feed line at the same time .. so, 2 distinct parts... diameter/volume being the difference....

.. meaningful ,Friday, but no Office.

I just picked two hoses to replace the hose from the tank to the pump and the pump to the line.  The hose with the metal fittings is 111 476 09 26 and it is made from 9mm ID 15mm OD hose (Cohline 2122.50.0800-1-9x15).  The other hose is a bulk 10mm ID 17mm OD hose (VDBL 6256 10 3 47 02 3174 DB 10 NBR)

I'll let you know if they do not fit.

Actually, the hose fit just fine (snug) after cutting off the fitting on the line end. I suspect the reason why the metal line changed along with the hose was to accomodate the new fitting on the hose. I imagine the addition of the fitting at this line/hose interface would probably be too little to necessitate the change, so there also might have been a volume change...

...and the question naturally arises: why did they not also change the hose at the back to match (if it was a truly volume change) ? To minimize part changes perhaps...?

<< why did they not also change the hose at the back to match >>

They did .. according to SLS site .
That is why I suspect a larger diameter hose..
..But, I would just use bulk hose to size at the pump, as the new fuel line compounds are great

My hoses fit perfectly.  I was surprised at the fuel that I drained out.  It was cloudy and looked like the dredges.  I guess that it is good to drain the tank every 10 or 20 years.

Can somebody clear this up for me? The fuel hose you are talking about that flows into the filter is one piece that has a metal section with a nut and then has a flexible section that clamps onto the fuel line from tank?

Mine appears to be clamped at both ends.

James,

Your hose is correct-- it has clamps on both ends. Go to the SLS website at http://www.sls-hh-catalogue.de/bin/dbframes.phtml?mid=IN02 and click on the fuel tank panel (47 Tank), the hose you're referring to is shown as #45. The rear pump hose we've been referring to is #40 (fitting on pump side, clamp on metal line side).

Now go back to the main page, and click on the panel with the fuel system (07.a Injection System). The fuel filter hose we've been referring is shown as either part #42 (early, with fitting on one end only), or part #43 (later, with fitting on both ends).  As A. Dalton mentioned, the metal line is also clearly different for each hose (part nos 40, 41).

According to my conversation with a classic center guy, the rear pump hose (#40) and the early fuel filter hose (#42) have the same part number: 111 476 0926.  If only I had the parts manual, I would corroborate this info.

BTW, the publications dept does not currently stock a parts manual, outside the no-part-numbers manual included in the CD set.  Anyone have a spare copy for sale?

Hi. Good illustrations. Now, when I look at my #42 (near filter) I see a metal fitting on filter housing it leads out for a couple inches, then there is a section of flexible house clamped on both ends. I am guessing this was my mechanic's move to use old fitting with a new hose.

No matter how we dice it , the question comes down to this ...
Why does SLS list two distinct part numbers for the  fuel pump/feed line hose on .042 chassis?

There has to be a physical difference , and I can only imagine ID ??
They are both fitting on pump side and clamp/slip fit on fuel line side.

111 476 09 26 is the later of the two, so what is the early Benz part# ??
All info I have does not mention this and SLS is the only site I have ever seen mention of a hose change on that chassis.
Early .043 uses the 111 476 09 26 coupled up with the front hose w/fittings on both ends ..108 746 00 26
May just be a mistake on SLS site .
Need someone with am early [ Edition A ] 230sl parts book.
