What Joe was trying to say in the kindest possible way, is DON'T EVEN TRY. Even when new, the dealers NEVER touched the pumps, all the books say leave it alone so you would be wise to take 35 years of advice!
That being said doesn't get your pump rebuilt. For that go to H&R Fuel Injection (Bohemia, NY) or Pacific Fuel Exchange in S. San Francisco. They'll either rebuild or exchange for you. Simple, quick and painless, but make sure you understand that you are looking at somewhere between $750-$1,000.
