OIL fill cap leaks after putting in Mobil 1
« on: September 21, 2005, 04:29:30 »
looking at the cap visually I can see no problems with the fitment or the gasket but after changing to Mobil 1 it leaks OIL down the sides of the cam cover not a lot but enough to create a smell. Is this slimey stuff somehow working its way under the gasket, I am at a loss...anybody else havingthis problem...how did you solve it...thanx

You may have to buy a new gasket; it may look OK but if it is older it may be starting to get brittle or slightly deformed do to continual use.

Agree with Bruce.  I use Mobile 1 and do not have any leaks.

Hello,
Do you still have the originasl metal cap?  The black plastic replacement caps tend to leak. As sugested I would try replacing the gasket first or the whole cap if you have the plastic one.
