Instrument light problem
« on: October 13, 2005, 15:01:28 »
The interior instrument lights no longer light up on my 70 280sl.  At one point I could jiggle the dimmer switch and get light but not any more. I thought I saw a posting but can't find it.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

One 'solution' is to bypass the dimmer control which a PO did on my car. Other solution may be to clean up the dimmer and/or have it replaced (not sure if it is still available new).

Same thing happened on my dimmer.  I was able to remove it, clean and repair the dimmer.  Contacts need to be refreshed after mnany years.  The dimmer mechanism looks like a spring.  Mine was broken near the end which is a soldered connection.  A small soldering job took care of it.
