List for No Longer Available Parts Lobby
« on: November 27, 2005, 16:14:50 »
(This is an idea that George, Robert Geco, and other active forum members have suggested within the forum discussion recently.)

NO LONGER AVAILABLE PARTS (NLA) LOBBY

Go ahead and list your favorite No Longer Available (NLA) part for lobbying with Classic Center and the usual list of quality suppliers that we use (Millers, Buds, GAHH, many others).  Perhaps during the course of parts ordering many of us do for restoration/ maintenance/ upkeep/ tinkering with can email, phone and write to sound the word and the market to those who certainly do want to know this info to produce it at a reasonable price. These suppliers do simply want to sell us things.

Add each new and unique item to the list with a number prior to it to help with a running talley.

Perhaps this will help every forum member to mention this every time we communicate with the suppliers. Like writing your congressman. It can help the bulk of w113 owners. Cheers and maybe some good can come of it.

Great idea Chad. As president of the Pagoda Group I can take this list to Daimler-Chrysler, perhaps teaming up with the German Pagoda club and the German-language W113 forum, to lobby. The main consideration for parts suppliers is having some indication of demand out there, and this is a great way to gauge that.

(5) The rubber stoppers between the door panels and the door frame.

(2) Rubber stoppers (door to door frame) - as per iceberg
(3) Sunvisors (reasonably priced, not a NLA, but World UPH inquired with us about it and don't know if we followed up)
(4) 5 speed transmission (just kidding, but there are probably some common repair parts that you lucky dogs with the ZF could use)

Cees/Chad,

I second the diamond pattern firewall pad and there are many others--the sun visors for all the different 113s come to mind. You are right about the ZF 5 speed. At some point all of us who have them are going to need some parts for this. Input shafts, synchronizer rings and assorted aluminum casting parts such as the rear cover plate as well as the gears. Many of the other parts are fairly common bearings, seals and hardware and are readily available. Tailight lenses in all their different configurations will always be needed. The internal parts of the European headlights, particularly the top reflector and the darn clips that hold the glass lens to the h/l assembly. Comprehensive repair parts kits for both style fuel pumps would also help. If Cees can make the contact over there that would be great--I hope others will do as I have and go directly to the Classic Center with a request--all of this may come to nothing, but one never knows until one tries!

I'd suggest:

(6) rubber floormats for 230SL, in all of the originally available colors, and
(7) original style polished stainless wiper blades for same!

The little rubber stop that goes into the bottom rear of the hard top. Reproduce the red tailights for early 113 chassies. Dash peices new and sun visors for the 280SL. The correct fire wall diamond cut material for the fire wall.

I'd like to see those rubber floor mats for 230 also. They are very period feel, even many of the Astons from the era had rubber mats also. Are we absolutely sure that they are NLA??  I have never inquired.

And stainless wiper blades also!  Again, before adding to the list, are we sure that SLS doesn't carry?

Early 230SL sunvisors, with the mirror in the right hand one.  I think sunvisors are available, but not with the mirror.

I'd also like to see the rubber floor and trunk mats for the 230SL, in the original colors.

Under dash cladding, also in the original colors.  I've been able to find it only in black.

230SL fuel injection pump thermostat and housing, for a reasonable price.  (I think the thermostat is available, for about $500!)

The BBB in English.

The first thing they should do is to put
the EPC(Electronic Parts Catalogue) and
the parts price list (both available on
CD at any Merc dealer)online now.

Lots of parts are still available, but
nobody knows. (Same with 107)

Have a nice day,

Tom

How about the data plates with the option codes and VIN #'s.   Especially the older versions which are more squarish and sit on the firewall and the hand hood release bracket.  Also the small rubber bumpers that sit on the ridge that runs across the firewall(the ones out there are close to the originals).
How about the original 5.5x14 rims with the #113 stamped onto them as well as the 5.5x15 rims too.  I have tried the 15 inchers on my SL and it looks good with extra clearance and would help in the economy too.
Umm, hardtops with sunroofs?  Skiracks?, and other rare options.  Can't a guy dream?

As Chad requested, please use a number to identify your request.  We need to keep this organized.  Please go back and edit your posts to look like the first couple replies.  That is:

(8)  Parts request
(9)  Next parts request
(10)  Some other part

I've just been jotting them down on a notepad along the way. Mentioned to four suppliers already.  I have no idea what to suggest regarding ZF 5speed , but the others are mentioned and they seemed very interested.

Make the list, *and* mention the list to the suppliers, if you think it helpful and you're interested.

Rodd's reminder is very helpful, I think.

Yes, my father and I are doing a restore and we need a DRIVERS SIDE SUNVISOR. I have seen beaten and battered ones for $400-$500
I have been mostly looking on E-bay but not having very much luck. Anyone have any ideas of where to get one for not a whole lot of money?

Kay just started a new thread about sourcing these for cheaper, possibly. I will be interested and following that progress through the spring.

If nothing comes of it I think that the SLS price is the lowest I have found also.

I remember World UPH was inquiring of our interest in the sunvisors, but I don't think they have put the product up for sale yet.

BTW, I just wanted to mention that I had thought the original 230 style MB textured vinyl was NLA, and I suppose it is.... however, the vinyl set I ordered (GAHH) is virtually identical (basketweave and texture/finish) to the vinyl seat covers that were original to the car.  If anyone has a 230 with vinyl originally on it then I would say that GAHH makes a product that is very satisfying if you want to keep the seats vinyl as original.

Apparently the 230 SL chrome rear view mirror (center one inside the windscreen) is also NLA, as far as I can tell as I am trying to find one for replacement.
