Power Steering Box
«

I have read several posts on the steering box, and wanted to confirm a couple of items...
The top round disk of my steering box is leaking. Is it as simple as removing the lock nut and lower nut, then uscrewing the round disk and replacing the 2 seals? Also replace the copper washers for the lock nut?
Hopefully this can be done without removing the entire box?
:?: Has anyone done this repair on their 113?
Thanks!
Bob

Hi Bob,
I had the same leak and not knowing any better at the time I removed my entire box and rebuilt it two years ago. While I have not done this myself, I see no problem for you to remove the cap nut, lock nut and unscrew the round disk. Once the disk is removed you can easily replace its o ring and reassemble. Under the cap nut you will see that the bolt has two flat sides. You will need to secure the bolt in order to remove the lock nut and disk. The disk has two small holes in the top. You can use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove it. It should not be very tight. The bolt is spring loaded and provides adjustment for steering box play. Assuming your steering play is ok I suggest you count the threads above the disk before removal and try to provide the same spring tension when you reassemble.

All,
While on the subject...
Is this a 113 power steering box.
Its supposed to be RHD so the arm may be on the wrong side???

It looks very similar. Can you provide some pics from other angles?

Shouldn't there be a part number on it? (Bob, sorry to be an accomplice in the thread hijacking!)
