1980 280 SL What would be a good price?
« on: December 09, 2005, 12:16:54 »
Hi, I was refered to this site by Chuck Taylor as a place to get a few answers.  Looks like an awesome board!  Just looked at this car... it's a 09/80 280SL,Auto, euro version, although since the original engine has been replaced, I guess the main differences would be the bumpers and headlights. It has 242(I don't know if that would be Km or Mi) and runs very poorly(hardly at all, but it doesn't smoke). No acceleration and whiplash when put into gear, reverse especially, even after warm up. The paint is in poor shape but only one minor rust spot under the moulding on the drivers door. The rest of the body is in pretty decent shape, no major dents and only a few small ones. In terms of the engine compartment, after the engine swap, the A/C was not put back on and it's a generally filthy area. It does have the hard top as well as the soft top(didn't check it out). Where would be the best place to find a value on this vehicle?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt This site is mostly about the earlier model Mercedes roadster, known as the 113(Mercedes body style number), built between 1963 and 1971. You might try this site that deals with the Mercedes 107 body style, cars built from 1971 thru 1989? http://sl107.com/6/ubb.x?cdra=Y&s=4936035941  Good luck
