Color combination / steering wheel ?
« on: December 18, 2005, 00:19:09 »
The 64 230sl I am considering is cream on red with a black steering wheel. With a red and cream dash I would expect the steering wheel to be cream. Is a black wheel in a color combination like this not unusual or can I assume it has been swapped ?
thx

Carl and List,
The M-B steering wheels of the period were available in black or ivory. The original customer could choose between these two, and there was no additional price for ivory.
What was originally fitted can be seen in the car's data card, SA 55/1 denotes ivory. You can obtain the Data card of your vehicle from M-B, they have these on record for all M-B produced.

The Optional wheel would be Ivory, with the 55/1 data card notation.  If there is no notation, then the stock wheel was Black.  .. So, Ivory was the option, and , as stated , at no price change for inclusion.
