Sources of Mercedes Literature

What are some of the best sources to find used (or new) Mercedes literature?  I used to collect old brochures but it's been a while.  I want to get the best shop manuals for on 1968 250SL.  It appears that a better selection of factory literature was introduced at the point of the 280SL...educate me on this.   Are their seperate mantenance, body and engine manuals for the 250SL?

Thanks for the comment on the bronze/brown interior in my ivory colored car. I like the "softer" contrast better than many 670 paint code cars with black interiors.

Now on to the shop manual...commonly referred to as the BBB (big blue book) you can find original copies of the "maintence, tuning and unit replacement" guides for passenger cars on eBay for anywhere from about $50.00 on up. My car is covered in the edition "starting August 1959" as it is for cars produced though December 1967. This book might cover your car, too depending on the production date. Mine does list the 250 SL. The book is pretty beat up as it must have been used quite a bit The next version is passenger cars starting January (I assume)1968. Be careful as Mercedes goes more by production date than model year.

Another alternative is to just order a reproduction BBB (its now silver, by the way) directly from www.MBUSA.com click on "classic" under "Mercedes in Depth". I think I paid $70 and received it in less than seven days. I also purchased a seperate "Technical Data" book for all models built in my car's production year.

Ebay has been my best source for manuals. I have used autolit, both through ebay and directly and they have been reputable to deal with. I have also used toad hall and books4 cars, also good to deal with.

There are a number of aftermarket manuals out there, The one by Ken(I believe) Ball is gotten decent reviews on the site. Glenn's is another. A lot of these books have the same content, as it all is originating mostly from the same source, MB.

I have had good luck tracking down a lot of the original pamphlets, maintenance books, etc. THere is a post on the site, with picture that shows a very complete set up for the 113's (manual, parts book, A/C, seat belts, spare tire card, dealer directory, etc>)

I would keep a standard query on ebay and just be patient.

I spoke to the MB Classic Center yesterday...

The Owners Manual is reduced to $12 and the service manual on CD-ROM is now $19
