Manual Antenna Stuck
« on: June 30, 2003, 20:06:08 »
The second section of the manual antenna (the section that fits into the last piece on the bottom) gets stuck with about 2 inches still showing...doesn't feel that its hitting anything or that it's twisted, I think it's because it hasn't been lowered in a few years. The big bottom piece goes all the way down, only the second section gets tight.

I have tried WD40, lithium grease, and a lot of strong (but straight) pushing....even when I give it a good shove from its full length, it still binds near the same spot.

Any suggestions? Prefer not to remove the entire antenna if another solution is possible.

Could be that the tiny brass keepers that typically prevent the different sections from coming undone are "frozen" at that spot from lack of use. Maybe try again to let some penetrating oil sit there for a few days. If this does not work, and unless this is your original antenna or you are somehow emotionally attached to it, this may be a good time to replace it ?
