The 190SL Group has begun selling a cockpit cover for the 190SL. It is a very interesting item because it attaches with velcro tabs around the door handles and wiper shafts and tabs that slip between the front door and the body and tabs that slide under the top boot.

Has anyone seen something like this for the 113s? Anyone have a source?

A couple of years ago, someone on Dorian's site made noise about making them for our cars, but nothing ever materialized. Would the maker of the 190 versions be interested in following through? I'd be interested.

The cockpit cover are available from cover Craft for the 113 - They are to samll if you have a 280 with the head rest. Also they do not have a tab for the second mirror be it LHD.
If I was to purchase abother cover I would by the one for the 107 body which has the head rest and would fit better.

Classic Covewr in the UK have cover that cover about have of the hood and half of the trunk in a reflective silvber material which appears to be quite nice.

I believe Cover King makes one. Also you might be able to find something from www.autoanything.com MB has one available for the 107 cars complete with star logo.

Thanks for the leed. CoverKraft does make a cockpit cover fro the W113 and I ordered one this evening. I'll let everyone know what I thnk about it when it arrives.

I have one I got from California Car Cover and it works well. However, I noticed some fine scratches on the metal soft top cover right where the cockpit cover touches. I can't prove it was the cover, but I would put some soft felt or something under the cover in that area just to be safe.

It sounds like it might be faster, compared to hooking a cover to both windshield wipers, both door handles, and putting tabs under the hood and in the doors! Isn't that annoyingly over complex?

I have one of these, in matching red. Tom S. was kind enough to introduce the cockpit cover to me last fall while visiting D.C.

I find it to be a terrific thing. It squeezes down to nothing for stowage. And with another person you can put it on or take it off in just a matter of seconds. Sure keeps the sun (or even a light mist) off if you need to park for a little while. Mine fits like a glove and have seen no negatives. Did make a small/simple mod though; had my interior guy add a velcro strip to tie down to the passenger side mirror. It came with a tie down strap which wraps around the driver's side mirror base, but not for the passenger side mirror.

Rodd,

About covering the whole car-I drive my car to work and I am self conscious about covering the entire car once I get to work. However, putting the cockpit cover on to keep the dust out feels ok. And it's less bulky.

I sprayed my cover with soft top dressing to help water proof the cover. I have been caught in down pours and put the cover on and had no significant water penetration. The angle created by the cover sheds water nicely.

I do have the head rests. I am not sure of the brand, but I believe I got my cover from Performance Products. Tom Rose recently bought one like mine so perahps he can confirm the vendor.

The other thing about a full cover is that I never like to use it unless the car is clean. I worry about whatever dirt is on the paint getting rubbed around by the cover. The cockpit cover avoids that concern. (Not that I'm 4 wheelin' or anything)

Tom -- I was impressed by your interior cover and ordered one shortly after returning to Boise. I'm almost certain mine is the same as yours, just a different color (red vs. grey?). I recall yours has a rather subtle "Front" labled across the windshield area, as does mine, and I believe they're from the same vendor.

Go down the page to the 3rd item, which is "Specialty Covers" from "CoverCraft", then follow the "Select" prompts thru Interior Covers; Sunbrella; etc.

Oops. Instead of selecting Sunbrella, I should have said "WeatherShield". The one I selected was Red, Part #IC2007WR.

Just following up on this one. I decided on what I believe is the same cover as TR's (although I got a gray one). I bought it online through CarParts Discount.com. $79 plus S&H. I am pleased with it, although it took a while to get here (3+ weeks). Also, they missed the line-up on the mirror strap slightly (maybe because 230SL gooseneck is different than other Pagodas)... Still it works and fits fine. Thanks for the idea!

I just purchased one also... extremely pleased with it - use it all the time. It keeps dust and crap as well as prying eyes out when I stop for coffee or take Isabella for icecream! GREAT and you will use it!
