Nice Car on Ebay

I am not affiliated with the seller and the shots with the model are a little cheesy BUT this APPEARS to be one of the nicer cars I have seen on eBay. Looks like even the carpet is original with the rubber around the shifter still in place(?). Currently $31,000 and "reserve not met".

That's not an original carpet (but to their credit, they say as much in the description). The shifter has the telltale black leather (not rubber) surround, the carpet's weave isn't as tight as the original, and the heel pad fit is poor.

Also, it should be pointed out that the seller implies that it's a factory leather car, but I don't believe it is. It looks like the seats were later upgraded to leather and the dash and glovebox are still covered in the original MB Tex.

Hardtop should be black and has no rear bumper guards but looks like it does have a model. Seller responds to questions quickly and looks like a nice car.

As in many cars restored by "professional restorers" the area behind the grill in front of the battery is incorrectly painted body color.  That is one thing about this site there are certain things that we really know about these cars and love to pass on.

Should have looked closer before speaking up. Obviously I was in error on the carpet. It does look like one of the nicer cars that I have seen for auction of late. Still, I remain a "don't bid uness you see it in person" kind of guy, myself.

I agree about the "see in person" buy. I went to L.A. to look at a silver 71 and the car looked and drove great but when I pulled the carpet which was dry the floor was damp. I crawled under the car and noiced a lot of rust and corrosion in the driver's floor. The seller is an 83 year old WWII B-17 pilot/POW who said that he didn't know of the rust and I believe him but he won't get his price in this condition. The expense of the trip was well worth it. There are a couple of areas, battery, air cleaner and defroster vents, that were hand brushed with satin black paint before the car left the factory. Essentially, when a W1113 is fully painted there are areas where the body color can be seen through the grill. Mercedes felt these should not be apparent and chose to "black out" this body color to maintain a consistent black behind the elegant chrome grill at the front of the car.
