Leather Restoration (Link to pix)
« on: July 10, 2003, 14:35:24 »
I've just finished restoring my leather interior in a non-Pagoda. Nonetheless, it is a Mercedes from 1973 fitted with Roser leather, so I think people will be interested to see the results.

I'm not finished posting pix, but I do have a few pix up that should give you an idea. Go to:

Nice work, Douglas!  Pretty amazing results.  Almost makes me wish I had leather instead of Tex.

Thanks for the compliments. It took me about 3-4 days to do the work. Most of the time is spent waiting for either the crack filler or the dye to dry.

I wouldn't say it's as good as new, but I'd say it's very near. In certain places, the surface appears to be painted and doesn't have that vat-dyed look of good old German leather. (In some places though, it really does look as new.)

You have to remember that my leather was  severely worn in some places. Also, keep in mind that this process cost about $100. All in all, I'm pleased with the results. I think the seats will improve once I oil them and give them some "luster."

Thanks for the kind words. I used Leatherique crack filler (sort of a spackling for leather) along with Leatherique leather dye made to order in my factory color of 263 (Tobacco Brown). Visit www.leatherique.com for prices & more info.

I plan to post many more pix in a couple days, so check back with my site.
