I thought the Group would be interested in seeing a new prototype radio that takes the old vintage style Becker and updates the design for navigation, phone, MP3 (Ipod) in addition to radio. I ordered one for my project car. When on, the screen emulates the old style dial of the classic Becker Mexico radio.

Tom .... Very interesting. When is you "project" car planned to arrive back in this country? I want to be one of the first to visit your new "child".

Thanks for sharing that, Tom. I don't suppose you know if it fits the old/smaller 230sl radio hole?
Best,
g
BTW, here is a link with some more description, price is estimated at $1500 Euros:

Jim,
Don't you realise that Tom is about to be a proud new father to a new stiff baby (contrary to bouncing). We should all leave him time to bond with the baby first before getting our hands on it.

The question posted is what am I doing with the speakers for the new radio. I've had new speakers installed with the kick panel built out slightly to support the speakers. See the attached file.

Ed,
System sounds great-but a little vibration from the parcel tray area needs to be isolated and resolved. Someone asked for another picture of the speakers with a larger view. Here it is.

Tom, great looking installation of the new speakers!
Any chance of a sneak peek of the rest of the car? I've been dying to see it.
I see you went with one of my personal favorites, the hard map pockets!

Hi Tom,
How did you build the speakers in the kick panes? Is it made of wood or fiberglass? Did you screw it in place? Looks nice and does not take away from the look of the car.
cheers,

Tom -- That's a lovely looking installation of, what I am sure are, some very high-quality speakers.
As you may recall, as we were driving around in your car a while back, I tried to desribe the mid-range & tweeter arrangement in my 280SL's kick-panels. We also had to do a build-up, and this photo will show you what our approach was. Not totally dissimilar, eh?
