antenna question
« on: July 12, 2003, 07:42:09 »
Does the Hirschman antenna retract fully to the fender? Mine is still one length long (about 14") when retracted, and I'm wondering if it is sticking.
Thanks,
Joe

I'm pretty sure it should fully retract. Otherwise, what's the point of making it retractable :-)

Group:

Different question, but similar topic:  Yesterday my power antenna (possibly original) made a *snap* sound when extending, and has been dead since.  The motor still runs, but I'm pretty sure the plastic "pusher/puller" (to use a highly technical term) broke.  First, is that replaceable (and would it be worth the effort)?  Second, if I need to buy an new antenna, does anyone have any specific recommendations (e.g., Hirschmann model xxx)?  Thanks for any advice,

Joe,
The antenna does retract completely to the antenna base when working properly.
If it is a power antenna, the reason that it does not fully retract may have to do with something other than the mast itself.

David- Recommend you call Walter Odimer Co. for asvice. they service all Hirschmann antennas 7 have been around a long time. They fixed one for me a year ago that Becker couldn't/wouldn't & helped with a manual that I wanted for my Pontaon recently. Tom Hanson @ Caliber has recommended them also.818/846-2819, Burbank,CA.

The manual and power Hirschmann antennas do go all the way down. I posted a question about a stuck manual Hirschmann a few weeks ago "Manual Antenna Stuck".  Since then I have been successful in getting the antenna all the way down by using WD-40 and a lot of strong but gentle pushing...one section still binds a bit but it does go down and I can pull it back up OK. I hope that with repeated ups and downs, it will eventually loosen up.
Before you get too aggressive, make sure it's not bent.
