confusion about our engine blocks

There is an M130 engine block on ebay right now. The photo shows that there are only four main bearings. Is it ONLY the M130.983 that has seven mains?

Hello lurch,

All M130 engines had seven main bearings.  It is probably a M180 engine with three main bearings.

It does not appear to have the wtaer slots between the cylinders that the M130 had.  From the pics I think it might be a M127.

It's definitely NOT a 280 something block! All 280's have a bearing between each cylinder and a double roller chain. Congratulations to all of you who didn't fall for that one!

Hello Larry,

The seller is completely wrong. Notice the block has no place for an injection pump! This is a 230 series block M180. This was from a carbureted 230 sedan, probably a finback. The 230 series were the only Mercedes of the era with single roller timing chains and four main bearings.
