interior rearview mirror

was the arm that holds the rearview mirror painted or was it plain metal?. mine looks like it may have had paint on at one time, but it's hard to tell if it was original.

On a late-model US-spec 280 SL, the neck is finished in matte silver.

Brian, mine was matte silver, but pitted.   When I sought a replacement, I could only obtain plastic.   Why?   I was advised that the metal arm was deemed a safety hazard...FYI
