Alternator earth wire

The original earth wire on my 64 230 SL was a hollow tube made of fine plaited wires with eyelets soldered each end.The 63 Catalogue A shows it as a spare part, but now no longer available.
I made a plated wire from two single strands of copper wire and covered it with similar plaited tube from an aircraft loom, but it is very stiff and probably not flexible enough which I gather was the reason for the original design (flexibility).
What have the electrical gurus used for a replacement ?
PS. I have no elec knowledge so please advise wire sizes.(in mm if pos)
Thanks
Mike,

Hello Mike,

I use sections of original wire from donor Mercedes sedans of the era to repair wires like this. In this way I am able to get the original size, color and configuration.

The sleeving can also be used. If a donor is not available, heat shrink tubing will substitute and a minimum of 14 gage stranded wire will work in a pinch.

Contact Rhode Island Wiring Harness to get exactly the correct new wire size and colors new. They reproduce many Mercedes wiring harnesses. They may sell you some correct wire and sleeving.
