G'Day Gerry,

Thanks for your correspondence.

I have a good mate in Santa Maria Cal. An ex Army Mate - so a GOOD mate. He'll help me with an address if needed.

Insurance
I have engaged a US Insurance company willing to insure me and my wife to drive. Only about $400. I am interested to see nevertheless, who you use to obtain a comparison quote but more importantly ,it's always good to have backup. You mentioned "Progressive" in your story. I have tried them and they declined. Do you have their email address or contact?

Regiastration
If I bought the car in Cal. Would you advise obtaining a 30 day Temp Permit as you did? Will this negate the need for a full registration?

Read you story, lucky I had a spare 10 hours. Most interesting!
I intend driving my Pagoda (when I buy it) LA>LV>Grand Canyon> Lake Tahoe>San Fran>Long Beach ......hope I don't encounter the breakdown issues you experienced. Mind you German engineering vs British = No Match.

You mentioned that there are unscrupulous LA dealers. If you can remember please let me know who I need to avoid and to remain ethical here's my email roycasey22@gmail.com.

Speak soon Mate.

Rocco

A quick reply. It was progressive and your price was around the same And had to do six months. Definitely only get a 30 day permit. It was really easy. Walked into their equivalent of our RTA except it appeared to be a commercial rather than State run shop and within  5 minutes and $18 I had a permit to fit to the rear end.

If it all turns to poo you could always register Irvin your mates name then do a bill of sale to yourself. Just remember to inform that it is being exported so that there is no equivalent bog stamp  duty on transfer. The bill of sale was enough. Also remember you cannot repeat cannot ship until you have the approval to import.

Many unscrupulous was a bit strong just that there have been some dealers mentioned on this forum as known for having ' dogs or sows ears so to speak'  :o

Hi Everyone,

Wanted to introduce myself, I 've had my 1968 250SL for  about 10 years now, bought it from my grandfather who had since new. Was an Arizona car, rebuilt the engine and tranny about 8 years ago, currently cleaning up the body a bit.

Will be looking for a few odds and ends as well as likely some technical information and will share experiences.

I have been building race cars, customs and hot rods for about 25 years.

Thanks.

Good Morning all Members (Dzień dobry wszystkim) !

It's already time to introduce myself. I joined the forum a few months ago but I was slightly blocked due to my not so perfect english (my foreign language is "deutsch"). But the adventures of Andy from Auckland provoked me to join a discussion, congratulating him and add a few tips of my car restoration.

I live in Poland, 46 years old (like my Pagoda), I am an electronics engineer. Except of nice daily drivers have another special car: G-Class 350GD Turbo 1992 prepared (partially personally by me) for long trips. We go to the mountains of Europe and have fun exploring old 4x4 trails. Generally, my hobbies gravitate around cars.
Hoping that will fix all my mistakes in English, I say a big hello to everyone.

Thank you.

Hello Dariusz,

Welcome to the Group. I was looking at an early G Wagon recently and nearly purchased it. Nice vehicle.

Post some pictures when you get a chance of your Pagoda.  Every one likes to look and compare.

Again Welcome

Hello and Welcome Dariusz!

Don't worry about your English it's perfect and in time will be getting even better :) I joined the German Pagode Forum for the same reasons to polish my German writing, since I've been too long in Canada. Looking forward to your photos.

R-D

Google translation is very handy an most times it works quite OK. Polish however is a tough animal and for google it is the major failure in that chapter...
nice try though ;)

Have got an idea: let's get into the Polish language in this forum.
Looking statistically from several recent posts, it would be the simplest way for all... ;)

Thank you for the positive feedback about my 2.5 years of work. Opinion of the people who know the subject, is the greatest satisfaction.
I forgot to add one more thing. If someone had a question about the detail of my restoration, feel free to ask.
If I knew how to answer, I'll do it with pleasure and to my best knowledge.

Kampala - thank you for the warm welcome.

Thank you Larry,

Now begins the winter, slowly appears salt on the roads.
I will use this time to "see as much as one could wish for" at a new car.
But in the spring, I'm going to start the operation, although only during good weather.

Greetings,

 Hi Guys,

Also new on this site though I was on the MB veteran list a decade ago or so. I have an "horizon blue" 250 SL of November 1967, among the last produced which I purchased in California in 1998 - it was an original black plate and I'm the fourth owner according to the service book. It is in absolute original condition, never resprayed. It runs fantastically well thanks to a "magician" in the Netherlands, close to Amsterdam (yes, I'm writing from old Europe...), who fixed a few issues and tuned it wonderfully: the car still reached 180 km/h (in Germany only -:) !) easily and is still very punchy, with a perfectly functional automatic gear box. happy to give the details of the specialised workshop to anhy interest member: the guy is not cheap at all, but you see the difference when you get your car back

I've been a long time customer of MB until the early 2000 where I got fed up with recurrent electronic bugs on my then brand new CLK cabrio 200 kompressor and an equally brand new ML 270 CDI whihc I bought for my wife - this car had so many problems that we wold it (for a very low price...) hardly two years laters. I went to BMW (not much happier) and to Audi for a A6 avant 3.0 TDI quattro - a fanstatisc car that i drove for 137,000 KMs without a single bug!.

I'm currently considering buying a 2003 SL 350 (R230 model) but am hesitating because of the bad memories of MBs from that time. If anyone has some insight on the reliability of early 2000's SL 350, I'd be happy to get some feedback.

Cheers,

Marc.
