Hi Everyone,

Just joined the board since I just inherited a 1965 230SL.

My dad brought it home for my mom over 35 ears ago when he picked it up at an auction. At first she wasn't happy that he'd spent 11,000 on a car without consulting her. Well he wasn't in the dog house for long and she loved the car. She had a 1961 280SE Coupe in the mid 60's but my mom & dad drove it in the winter and the salt got the best of it after a while, my mom was sad when it was sold. So that is why my dad bought the 230SL for her, he always felt bad about her loosing her baby. The 230SL since she had it has never been winter driven.

It currently is in my sister's garage and I'll pick it up in the spring once the salt is off the roads.  The car has about 86,000 miles on it. Nothing major has ever been done to the car, it's never been hit and never painted. My mom wouldn't let anyone drive it, in the 35 years I've driven it 3 times! Only once with her permission LOL.

I'd like to get some restoration done on the car, so will be looking for some suggestions.

Mike

Dieter,

Thanks for the information and greeting.

Over the next few months I'll get more information and a few pics from the garage.  In the spring I'll get some better pictures once I get her cleaned up and running!

In the spring maybe I'll contact Dan C and drive out to him to look over and let me know what should be done.

Jonny,

Thanks for the welcome!

I'll try and get some pics sooner of the car in the garage. And maybe rummage up some older ones if I can find any. Worst case will have some in the spring when I go get her out of the garage and spif her up.

Hi. New member from Colorado joining, as I have recently acquired a 1964 230SL. From the pictures and the inspection, car looks great - and is in the process of being shipped from one part of the USA to another. However, I am currently working in Germany, so it will be a little while before I actually get to see the car. Have been lurking through this forum for about a month, so am excited to become part of the group.

Patrick,

Welcome.   The 230 looks very nice.  There are a couple of us on this forum who have European lives with home-bases in the USA.

Enjoy and let us know when you first take her out.

Good Evening

I've just found the site this evening and I'm very keen to buy myself a W113. I've posted in "General Discussion" regarding a car I'm considering buying and would welcome any opinions/advice. I'm based in the north of England and look forward to increasing my knowledge of W113's via the forum.

Best Wishes

Steve

Welcome Patrick, Mauro and Steve to our firum.

Patrick, good luck with your work in Germany, I hope you don't have to wait too long before you see your car.

Mauro, it is a special forum indeed, a true international one. Post some photos when you have a chance, we love photos of our cars :)

Steve, if you are anywhere close to London, there is a shop just outside London, Colin is a Member here see link below. If it's too far from you it would be beneficial for you to find a Member near you that has a good knowledge of our cars. Or find a shop near you that has a Benz mechanic on staff to look over your find before you purchase. Also in our technical manual is a good write up (prepared by our long term members) that gives you good pointers. I'll post the links for you here for the London shop and the article in our Tech manual. Good luck.

Hi Everyone,

New member here. I´m a proud owner of -70 280SL which I bought on my 40th birthday (2008).

I got a "Pagoda fever" in 1998 and it took ten years to find one which met my standards. I was searching for a rust free, numbers match, manual transmission car with nice color combination. Mission impossible? Yes it was. I had to lower my standards. So, what I got:

A very solid white (050)car with bamboo leather and automatic transmission. I´m happy.

BR,
Matti

Hello Pagoda Forum,
I am in the process of rescuing a one owner '69 280 SL/auto/matching numbers/98K miles that has been sitting in a garage for the past 20 years. So far we have aired up the tires to make sure it will roll so we can winch it onto the trailer and squirted a little marvel into the cylinders. Will make sure it turns over by hand this weekend.

Looking forward to this project.

Hello Porter,

Welcome to our Pagoda SL Forum. Your project sounds like a very interesting one that I'm sure you like to share with Members here. May I recommend you start a thread here in our General Discussion Forum area along with photographs of your new find.

-----> https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?board=2.0

We love photos so if you can include them it be great. The benefit by starting your very own thread will be that you can add the progress as you go along with your project that will be of interest to many in our Forum. At the same time you can find a helping hand to issues you might discover during your rescue of this fine automobile :) you will soon find (unless you already discovered it) that our Forum is as much about people as it is about our Pagoda, to this end people helping one another is one of the great benefits of our Forum.

Good luck with your project and happy Motoring.

Welcome to the group bama9eleven and congratulations on your find.  I am very happy to see an additional member from Birmingham.

I second Dieter's comments.  We would be interested in seeing your project from the very start - like pulling it out of its resting place!

Hello there
I am a fifty one year old mechanic who should know better but still loves stupid old cars.. I have worked on a number of 113's in the past and love the style and build quality , and they are pretty rugged too, if I win the Euro millions I will build a 230 historic race car, I would love to see one out there.  The other day I came across a hand book for a 280sl and will post it on here as it would be nice to reunite it with the car .

Hi @ all,

i´m Karsten from Germany in Lower Saxony. I have to be 48 old to become a 113 SL  :)

From December 2014- September 2016 i restored with my 20 years old son the W113.

It stands 20 years in the Mojave Desert. Now it is a beautiful car.  :)

Hello Dieter and fellow members.
Having owned my 1970 280SL for a good number of years now, I know I should have become a member a long time ago. Dieter- I am actually in your neck of the woods, in the London Ontario area.
Dan C. the Benz Dr. knows me and my car quite well and he is always nice enough to occasionally drop by my house and say hi and talk car stuff.
Dan has mentioned he hasn't seen too many cars like mine as it's a gold exterior with gorgeous red interior- Euro version, California Coupe. (Hard top with full factory, folding rear bench seat.)
Currently, getting the heater leavers finally renewed and replaced.
Glad to have finally joined the group and certainly enjoy and appreciate the wealth of information on this great site.
Best,  Ian
