MANN Oil Filter
« on: May 28, 2006, 06:35:33 »
 :) Hello All!

:?: Which oil filter kit do you use?

I have been using the MANN filters, which come with all of the correct washers, EXCEPT the washer for the oil cooler.

Which kit contains the washers for the oil pan plug, oil coooler plug, oil canister bolt and large rubber washer for the canister?

Thanks!
Bob

bpossel:  Just replaced the oil and oil filter on my '66 230 SL and used MANN oil filter no. H 720 which, in its package, includes large diam. o-ring for groove between filter container and its mount on engine and an alloy washer for between filter container and long bolt which secures container to mount on engine.
If you do the task yourself, you may notice like I did that MANN is stamped into the alloy (OEM of course) filter canister.
P.S.  I'm an acquaintance of Pat Williams in Memphis and I live in Bowling Green.  He's a Porsche tuner and if you don't know him, you ought to go by his shop and see his client's '76 911 race car conversion - it was unbeatable last year...

Hello, Bob,
I also use Mann filters or genuine MB filters 000 180 0009. Have also used Mahle in the past.
They all contain the same seals.
I do not know of a filter kit which comes with the 280 oil cooler seal. However, it is available separately, part # N 007603 012111.
Hope this helps.

 :) Thanks Naj and Lilly.

I read some earlier posts about Knecht filters.  I believe these "may" contain all of the washers, including the oil cooler washer.

Can anyone else confirm?  Are the Knecht filters as good as the Mann?

Thanks!
Bob

Hello Bob,

That's strange, the Mann oil filters I have used always had both the metal seals.  Maybe they have deleted them on new stock?

Knecht filters are excellent. They have also been used by the factory as original suppliers for filters.

I think I may have a Hengst? in there right now. I usually get my filters from Ray P. and it seems like the brand he sends vary. I know I have used Mann and Knecht as well. All seem to have the same washers: one for the oil pan plug, one for the filter bolt, an oil cooler washer (which I don't use) and a large rubber seal for the canister. I believe all other seals (i.e. the notorious "garden house" seal) need to be bought separately.

My fuel and air filters are Mann.
