Unless you are absolutly positive that the car is exactly as presented and there are NO surprizes awaiting you... I would arrange with the seller to either escrow or send (FedEx) a substantial portion of the price, with the balance (2 to 4,000) to be overnited upon delivery and your final inspection! I did NOT do this on a 250SL that I purchased 8 months ago... car would not run upon delivery and several major problems were found - still waiting for the seller to "make things right" as he promised when I confronted him with the problems. It was MY fault because I trusted his word! I even flew out to inspect the car, paid it in full and trusted his word that he'd fix the problems upon receipt of the bills! Oh well! Just protect yourself!!! :?
