Al's 66 230SL
« on: July 28, 2006, 13:07:49 »
Hey ya'll
My son has pulled the cover off my old 66 so we can get it running again for him to drive. I am only the second owner of this car. I purchased it out of a salvage yard in Texas back in may of '76. It was my daily driver for about 5 years but has been languishing out in the garage for most of the last 30 years.
Here is a pic I took back in 1976

Here is the condition it's in now:
The more I check it the more I find that needs work.
It will never look like showroom new again, but we'll get it good enough to go bombing around in.

Al,
Thanks for sharing. It's interesting that your 230 SL has the later 280 SL-style bumper guards. Were the bumpers updated at some point years ago?

Hey Douglas
Back in the 70's my father and I had a Benz specialty repair and body shop.
The 280SL bumper guards were a dealer installed option (made in the USA) and were sold as a complete set of 4. When we repaired accident damaged cars we would put on the complete new set, and I saved the good take-offs till I had a complete set to put on my own SL.

Are the photo upload rules posted somewhere?
I could only get my pics to upload by shrinking them down to 300pixels wide.
Thanx
