I bought some time ago a used Sun Electric Tach Dwell Tester  Model TDT 12-7T. does any one out there have any data or info as how to operate same.it has a red and black polarity clips.where are these connected to? car 280 sl with std coil and dist.

Normally these have 3 connectors, Red +, Black -, and a third lead which connects to the lead that powers the ignition points from the coil !

If you have two leads only I would assume you need to connect to ground and to that coil/points wire, but I'd wait for someone else to confirm !

Ben is correct.  The black is for ground and the red goes to the hot lead from the coil to the condensor nuts on the side of the distributor.  I don't know that model but Sun made good test equipment.
