Immobilizers

as i get closer to owning a 280sl, i would like to get some feedback from you very helpful people as to having a IMMOBILIZER put in my 280sl for keeping my car secure.

How about something simple like removing the fuel pump fuse?

Fancy electronic systems usualy will only keep the owner from starting the car. An actual thief will just winch it up onto a flatbed and be gone in 60 seconds.

I got a totally fenced property and two dogs roaming free. I got a shotgun to back up the dogs. The Pagoda is in a locked garage with an immobilizer. The neigbor across the street has a good view of my front gate and is a collector of AK47's. We have an active neighborhood watch and the other neighbor is a cop. In engineering lingo that's called "redundancy"

In the rear well of your Pagoda, put the following:

1)  A few old copies of "GUNS & AMMO" magazine.
2)  A pair of US size 13, muddy work boots.
3)  A spiked dog collar, large size.
4)  A note that says the following:

Jake--Big Mike, Bubba and me went to walk Spike--since he's been fixed he's all sorts of ornery.  Gonna stop and get some more ammo too.  See you in a few minutes.

That, including insurance, is probably all you need... :D

After making a modification to the wiper stalk for hi/lo beam switching another member suggested using the obsolete foot switch as a starter inhibit switch.  This is better than removing and installing the fuel pump fuse.  It's simple, reliable and stealthy.  Just might do the trick.
