anyone have some spare trim clips ?
« on: August 11, 2006, 22:00:21 »
Hello All - -

I am diligently working to get my derelict 230SL ready for the paint shop by removing all of the body trim.

Not unexpectedly, some of it was loose and nearly ready to fall off. While pulling it off I discovered that some of the nylon anchor clips were missing or damaged. I need help finding a vendor for these items  - - OR preferably - - gratefully accepting some - - -.

There are  two varieties of trim strip attachment hardware in use on my car. In the photos, the lower series of holes accept these fastener blocks, the upper holes are where the sheetmatal screws secured the upper trim strip.  Method A uses a one-piece knobbed device that engages a hole in the door. Method B uses a conical stub device that snaps into a push collar that is inserted into the door. I need some of each variety.

Of additional interest is the photo of the contrast between the original paint ( #717 Papyrus ) and the overcoat applied later on. As you can see, the grey cast to the 717 white made for a very dull look, sort of dirty white.

Thanks, More to come  - - Larry in CA

Larry:

Millers will have them.  Their website is millermbz.com.   If you're replacing all of your clips let them know and they will send you what you'll need.

Larry,

The blue and yellow trim clips in the top right of the second picture are the correct clips for the Pagoda, and available from any dealer.
The red inserts seem to be from a 107, not sure where the other ones are from.

An often discarded piece of the trim clips is a metal spiked spring tab that goes on one of the plastic tabs of each of the moldings. They were installed between the clip and the insert button. These are to keep the mouldings form sliding forward or back and interfering with the doors.

Or are these not available any more.

I have all of the variety of the trim clips etc.....I got them from Millers Mercedes.  Mike will help you out.  I may have some spares when we complete installation of trim next week and could send at least the good used ones if I had an address....  I have to return the new unused for refund as they were purchased on my customers account.

Lurth et al.

Yes, you can get these parts from Millers, SLS, etc.  You can also get them at a discount (if you are an MBCA member) from MB of Anaheim Hills (formerly Caliber Motors) or simply going to any MB dealer.

Now I am scared....

Had my rear wings done last year and last weekend the upper of the two strips infront of the rear arch came off. Screwed straight into/through the metal

I somehow doubt that this is the most efficient way of doing it, a) for purposes of attracting tin worm and b) for reasons of the thing falling off... :(

Like Naj, I too did not realize there was a difference.  I recently installed a set that I purchased for my car and they were all the same color and included in a single zip loc bag.  I wonder if they were actually different. I also wonder how much differnce there is between the ones for the doors nad those that go into sheet metal.  All clips seem to be holding OK.
