Downsized Starter

With the engine back together following the head rebuild, I cranked the engine with the starter, only to find that the starter would not release.  So after checking the electricals, I ordered a rebuilt unit from Rusty.  A considerable size difference.  I am assured that this is a correct replacement, and it will certainly be easier to install.

Hello Chuck,

It looks like a more modern replacement. See if it has a "PS" (horse power) number stamped on the case.

Hi Chuck,

Rusty lists both a 'Denso" and "Bosch" brand.  Which one did you order?  Wonder if both brands are smaller?

It's a Bosch.

I talked to my friend Dave, shop manager at the local Porsche dealership, and he said all the rebuilds from Bosch are much smaller than the orginals.

Nothing labeled PS on the case, only the part number and a large "1."  Installed easily, and works fine.

BTW - with the rebuilt head, new chain, and tensioner, car started easily and runs fine.  No more smoke, and much smoother with the new motor mounts.  It was raining so I didn't drive it today, but I can't wait to try it on the road.
